About
I’m a fiction writer, as well as a reviewer, editor, textbook author, and creative writing teacher. My home is Vancouver, Canada, where I live with my partner, novelist Heather Burt.
The “Fiction” section contains descriptions of my new novel, Losing Shepherd (Signature Editions), along with information about earlier work and some review excerpts.
My textbook for students of English literature is in use at colleges and universities across Canada, and internationally in the US, the UK, Asia, Continental Europe and the Caribbean. The “Textbook” section describes the international and Canadian editions of the book (different titles/same book).
The “Reviews” section takes you directly to The BC Review, with links to my reviews of British Columbia fiction.
Simon Fraser University’s Writer’s Studio is one of the most successful alternatives to the MFA in Creative Writing that you can find. I’m pleased to be a mentor for a graduate narrative workshop at the Studio. It’s a six-month-long course that begins in September, open to students who have completed the Studio program. A small group of students meets with me once every two weeks, on-line. You can find more information about the Writer’s Studio in the “Teaching” section.
